At around 7pm on Friday 27 May the 18 year old woman was driving along Pope Lane in Whitestake with her friend when she stopped at the junction with Chain House Lane.

As they waited at the junction, a man approached her car, opened the door and began to punch her in the face. She was able to get out of the car but the man continued to punch her before running away.

The man has been described as white, approximately five foot four inches tall, slim build and pale complexion. He had a shaved head with protruding ears and walked with a limp. The driver received severe bruising to her face but her passenger was unhurt.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward and contact them.

In particular, officers are keen to speak to the driver of a white transit van that was travelling directly behind the woman’s car at the time. The woman was driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa.

Sergeant Stuart Swarbrick, investigating, said, “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a young woman who has been left extremely shaken by what has happened.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who may recognise the description of the man above to come forward and contact police”.

Anyone with any information can contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
