Friday saw flood alerts and warnings issued for the River Ribble across Preston but the river levels have dropped considerably as the Environment Agency withdraw the warnings.

The River Ribble burst its banks at Ribchester, Samlesbury and Walton-le-Dale as nearly 50mm of rain recorded in the last 24-hours. Lancashire County Council has numerous road closures in place due to roads becoming impassable. But a heatwave is still on the way from Saturday!

The flood warning - the second-highest alert level - covers three sections of the River Ribble close to and at Preston as the Environment Agency monitor river levels very closely and expect flooding.

The flood alert covers the river from Samlesbury through to Penwortham and also includes the River Darwen at Walton-le-Dale. As there are reports of surface water flooding on numerous roads in the city.
